12 Accessibility Services
Bay Path University is committed to providing equal access to students with disabilities under the guidelines of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Students with disabilities or temporary medical needs who wish to request reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to classes, programs or services must register with Student Accessibility Services and may inquire about the process by emailing accessibility@baypath.edu or calling 413-565-1602. Supports for students include reasonable and effective accommodations, academic adjustments, auxiliary aids and/or housing accommodations as determined on a case by case basis.
Students who wish to request accommodations must:
- Complete an intake form, linked on BPU Community under Student Accessibility Services.
- Submit disability-related documentation. Guidelines for documentation are available on the Bay Path Portal under the Student Accessibility Services site.
- Meet in person or virtually with a member of Student Accessibility Services to engage in an interactive process to discuss which accommodations may be appropriate and reasonable.
Accommodations may be requested at any time during the semester, but students are encouraged to make requests in a timely manner as accommodations are not retroactive. Students must also renew academic accommodations each semester, and any changes to disability status or to the nature of the disability must be reviewed with Student Accessibility Services. Housing accommodations must be renewed yearly, with updated documentation submitted at this time.
Students approved for accommodations maintain the right to confidentiality and the choice to access or waive the granted accommodations on a semester-by-semester, course-by-course, or task-by-task basis. Records are maintained in a confidential manner and are not included in a student’s academic record.
