EDU 348: Reading and Language for English Language Learners

This course focuses on current theories and their applications related to the teaching of English Language Learners (ELLs) and is designed to promote continuous improvement in educator practice, and to build confidence and familiarity with research – proven practices for working with ELLs. The course is framed around two module areas:

  • A) ELLs: Their World and Second Language Acquisition Process in the SEI Classroom
  • B) Academic Language and Literacy Development in the SEI Classroom

IMPORTANT NOTE

Based on the nature of the curriculum and work load, the course is only offered in the fall semesters during the 14 week semester and will require live Zoom meetings. There is no fieldwork required but the course work is very demanding and there is a large capstone project to close out the course.

SEI Endorsement:

Per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, students must be enrolled in a certification program at Bay Path University to be eligible for Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) endorsement through DESE.  SEI endorsement can only be granted at the completion of an initial license program.

*Bay Path University cannot endorse students for SEI endorsement who are in the non-licensure program.
