Adjunct Hiring Practices

Course Assignments

Academic Program Directors handle all adjunct faculty hiring for Bay Path Online. Hiring decisions are based on an adjunct’s qualifications and alignment with faculty competencies.

Adjuncts can teach a maximum of six courses per year/18 credits (both fiscal and academic), and their individual course load is determined by the Program Director based on past performance and availability. Most course enrollment is capped at 25 students, and classes with fewer than ten students are typically canceled or offered as a Directed Study.

Compensation

Adjunct compensation is based on a university-standard pay scale, which is determined by academic credentials and prior teaching experience.  Compensation is distributed according to the University’s bi-weekly payment schedule starting after the first week of classes.

Faculty Contracts

When adjuncts are initially assigned a course, they will receive an automated Course Assignment Letter indicating that their assignment does not constitute a legally binding contract.  They will receive their Teaching Contract two weeks prior to the start of the session, with compensation calculated automatically based on course enrollment and other relevant factors at that time. The system will automatically adjust or void contracts if there are changes in course assignments or enrollment, ensuring real-time accuracy.
