Student Support Services

The SOUL Model is built upon a foundation of wrap-around supports to foster student success.  As adult learners, our students are balancing family responsibilities, a career, school, as well as other obligations.  One of the allures to an online, accelerated program is the convenience and flexibility our format offers for these students.  Some of our students may have been out of school for a long time, so their writing, study, and technical skills may not be as refined as they once were.  As such, we offer wrap-around support services to address some of these needs.

The purpose of the Student Success Center is to expand upon our existing wrap-around services, providing both graduate and undergraduate students in all modalities personalized guidance, innovative services, and a collaborative community focused on continuous learning, resilience, and holistic development.

The team of Student Success and Retention Specialists is available to triage students’ needs, connecting them to a wide range of available services including counseling services, career and life planning support, student engagement, academic advising, academic coaching and tutoring, financial services, fitness and wellness and more!

We recognize some of the challenges that come with staying informed about all of the available support services, and we hope the Student Success Center can assist you in your work with your students.

Academic Advising

Academic advisors are part of the SOUL model related to wrap-around support.  One key aspect of their support of the student is proactive advising based on an intentional data-driven approach to ensure students stay engaged in the fast-paced accelerated format.  You have an important role in ensuring the advising staff is aware of any student needs as soon as they are identified, which can include: missed assignments, diminished participation, or any direct student outreach to you that is beyond your scope as an instructor.

The Faculty Early Alert Tool embedded in your Canvas course is the most efficient way to assist our students by intervening early and engaging support services.

To best support the student, our hope is to have open communication among the program directors, faculty, and academic advisors. Please reach out to the academic advisor if your student is:

  • not participating in the course
  • expressing a financial concern that impacts her ability to persist in the course or purchase required materials
  • failing or not performing well in the course (identify this issue as early as possible)
  • expressing concern or struggling with the course
  • unable continue in the course and wishes to drop or withdraw from the course
  • communicating that she has experienced a major life event, which may impact her ability to continue with the course or in general
  • performing exceptionally well and deserves recognition

We have an advising center that is accessible to everyone, including faculty. If you have concerns about your students (grades, health issues, accommodations needed, tutoring, etc.), please reach out to them.
