Assignment Timeline

Below is an outline of how this assignment will be divided among the 6 weeks:

Week 1

Focus:  You will begin the writing process by identifying a topic, formulating an initial hypothesis for your mock research study, and identifying your sources during week 1. While these documents won’t be included in your final research paper, they stand as the building blocks to your research.

Deliverables:

• Identify a topic
• Formulate an initial hypothesis
• Identify your sources (6 original research studies)

Week 2

Focus: Now that you’ve identified your topic and scholarly sources, you will begin to critically examine existing scholarly works on your topic, allowing you to synthesize the main ideas, identify gaps in the research, and provide a comprehensive understanding of your topic so that you can design your own research study.  

Deliverable:

• Literature Review (To be included in your final research paper)

Week 3

Focus: This week is dedicated to beginning your research proposal. The knowledge you gained while composing your literature review will be used to guide the creation of your own research proposal. What have you learned about your topic so far, and what area would you want to explore further? Were there gaps in the research as you reviewed the literature? Were there opposing views, and if so, would you want to research one further? Perhaps your research during the literature review has sparked interest in exploring the topic in a new direction.

Deliverables:

• Use the sample APA paper to apply changes to your literature review
• Research Proposal: Methods Part A (To be included in your research paper)

Week 4

Focus: This week, you will continue with the draft of your Research Proposal. Go back to any feedback that you received on your Week 3 assignment and apply changes for this week’s assignment. Be sure to implement the suggestions and fix any APA issues that you may have. We will continue to work on your methods section for this week.

Deliverables:

• Apply revisions from your week 3 assignments
• Research Proposal: Methods Part B (To be included in final research paper)

Week 5

Focus: A very important part of the writing process is revision. So far, you’ve received feedback from your instructor, and this week you will have the opportunity to engage in a peer-review exercise with one of your classmates. Once you receive their feedback, make sure you apply any changes to your final draft, which is due next week.

• Apply revisions from your week 4 assignment and peer review suggestions
• Peer Review Exercise

Week 6

Focus: You made it! The final week is here, and you are now ready to submit your final research paper. Make sure you check the requirements below to make sure you included all of the necessary components of the assignment.
