Step-By-Step Process Overview

Project Process

The process for your project may depend on the scope of the redesign or design plan. Information specific to your project will be covered in the kick-off meeting with your Program Director (PD) and Instructional Designer (ID).

Projects are broken down into smaller chunks to avoid bottlenecks at the end of the development cycle and to catch any issues early so that they are not repeated throughout development.

The full project timeline includes content curation (template work), course build, and Quality Assurance (QA). All items must be completed by the final contract date.

Specific deadlines for Week/Module templates may also be set at the time of the kick-off.

Typical Timeline:

Kick-Off:

  1. New SMEs take part in SME Training.
  2. The project team meets to set expectations, determine the scope, go over the timeline and schedule for deliverables for the project.
  3. Any unique circumstances pertaining to the design project are discussed and planned for

Content Curation

  1. SME fills out and completes a week’s template (6 weeks total for Accelerated courses); this can include assessments, creating new learning materials, identifying existing resources
  2. Process is repeated for each of the 6 weeks in the course
  3. Teams may have regular meetings or other correspondence to check in on progress and
Note: Best practice is to try to submit an intial template or two early on in the process (even if some of the material may need to be adjusted later) so that you can get feedback and become more familiar with what the PD and ID are looking for. When all six weeks are submitted late in the process, there can be bottlenecks as any issues may need to be addressed across the whole project instead of being caught early and resolved from the start.

PD Content Review

  1. PD signs off on academic content or requests edits to be completed before sign-off
  2. If needed, SME submits edits and seeks stamp of approval from PD to send in for ID review

ID Design Review

  1. ID signs off on technical content or requests edits to be completed before sign-off
  2. If needed, SME submits edits and seeks stamp of approval from ID and PD to begin building

Build

  1. ID builds the content from the templates in Canvas
  2. At the conclusion of the build, the ID will loop in the SME and PD for a quality assurance (QA) check

QA

  1. SME and PD review the completed course in Canvas and sign-off on build quality and completeness or request edits to be completed before sign-off
  2. If needed, ID will circle back to SME/PD to make sure all QA edits were captured
